Georgetown, TX- The Sarofim School of Fine Arts is pleased to present Elena Gonzalez ’18 and Liz Mazurek ’18 in the Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery for their Senior Art Exhibitions this April. Join us for an artist’s reception with both Gonzalez and Mazurek as we celebrate the presentation of their work. In her senior art exhibition, Familiar Matters, Elena Gonzalez explores materials and objects associated with the home as evocators of memory and family history. Through paintings, weavings, drawings, and multi-media works, she investigates the ways that we evolve through our experiences of domesticity and its sociopolitical, environmental, personal, and spiritual influences. Using her feminist, Latinx perspective, she “navigates the intersections of cultural tradition, learned behavior, and intuitive self-development in order to examine the influence of societal expectations.” In her exhibition Swell, Liz Mazurek creates large, voluminous porcelain vessels that embody familiar folds and the soft, sensual curvature of the human figure. By exploring a corporeal relatability between body and clay, Mazurek challenges Western bodily standards to quietly celebrate individual appearance. Meet both artists at the opening reception on Thursday, April 5th from 5:00pm-6:30pm. The exhibition will remain open through April 11th. The Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery hours are 12 - 5 p.m., closed Mondays & holidays. All Sarofim Fine Arts Gallery events are free and open to the public.
