The David Rhett Butler Agency is serving as the sole Lakeway drop location for the Travis County Sheriff's Department's Project Brown Santa Program. Travis County Brown Santa depends on the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses in the community to provide items for neighbors in need and those who are less fortunate. Brown Santa started in 1981 with a few Travis County Sheriff Deputies helping about 25 families in the unincorporated areas of Travis County. Brown Santa helped 1704 families in the 2012 season. Since 1981, Travis County Brown Santa has helped thousands of people with more than half of those being children. This year, the Brown Santa program will assist approximately 2000 families which will be over 15,000 children and approximately 20,000 total individuals being served. Brown Santa is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Donations can be brought to the David Rhett Butler Agency storefront located at 3315 RR 620 South, Suite 150 in Lakeway during business hours Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. Monetary donations need to be mailed to PO Box 207, Austin, TX 78767. The David Rhett Butler Agency will be accepting toys and all non-perishable food items in unopened containers on behalf of the Brown Santa Program. Some of the main items that are needed for every food box are; corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, instant potatoes, stuffing mix, cake mix and cake icing and a bag of sugar. The Brown Santa Program provides toys to each child in the family ages 0-14, boys and girls. Donations of books, puzzles, stuffed animals, board games are needed for every age group. All donations need to be new and unwrapped. Very gently used toys are accepted if all pieces are present and in excellent shape.
