John Garrett, Publisher & CEO of Community Impact

An Austin native, John Garrett graduated from Sam Houston State University and began his career at the Houston Chronicle. He became the advertising director at the Austin Business Journal in 2002 and helped turn the publication into one of the top performing American City Business Journals.

While at the Austin Business Journal, John determined that he would create a hyper-local, monthly publication with free distribution to all that would be delivered through the mail. In September 2005, Community Impact Newspaper launched in Round Rock and Pflugerville.

As of April 2011, Community Impact is distributed to more than 650,000 households and businesses in 10 markets in the Austin, Houston and Dallas metro areas, making it the fastest-growing news organization in Texas.

John and his wife, Jennifer, have three daughters and live in Round Rock. They are active members of Hill Country Bible Church Pflugerville. He also serves as a board member for the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce and is president of the Round Rock Area Serving Center Board of Directors. John was named the 2010 Concordia University Excellence in Leadership Honoree and was honored as the 2010 Sam Houston State University Distinguished Young Alumnus.
