House of Representative Paul D. Workman
Paul D. Workman was elected in November 2010 to serve the people of District 47 in the Texas House of Representatives. House District 47 is comprised of the south and southwest part of Travis County, including Bee Cave, Briarcliff, Lakeway, Oak Hill, Onion Creek, San Leanna, Shady Hollow, Sunset Valley, The Hills, and part of Austin.
Representative Workman is a member of the House Committee on Business & Industry, the House Committee on Corrections, and the House Committee on Rules and Resolutions. He also serves on The Energy Council, which helps facilitate the development of national energy policy matters among the Southwestern states.
Following the 82nd Legislature and First Called Special Session, Representative Workman was named a "Taxpayer Champion" by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, receiving an "A" rating for his fiscally conservative votes.
Paul is the founder of Austin-based Workman Commercial Construction Services, Ltd. and has been engaged in the construction of commercial buildings for more than 37 years. His company’s projects have included retail centers, office buildings, schools, banks, parks and churches. After earning a BS in Building Construction from Texas A&M University in 1973, Paul served 10 years in the US Army Reserves as an Engineer Officer, retiring, after serving as a Company Commander, at the rank of Captain.
In addition to his public and military service, Paul is active in civic leadership roles. He has been a Rotarian since 1976, serving as President of the Rotary Club of Austin in 1998. He is a National Director of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America and also serves on the board of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse - Central Texas. For thirteen years Paul was President of CompGroup AGC (a workers compensation purchasing group) and continues to serve on that board.
He was Chairman of the Board of the AGC – Texas Building Branch in 2008 as well as Chairman of the Austin AGC chapter in 1996. His civic service also includes eight years on the Board of Directors of the Real Estate Council of Austin. His experience as a member of the AGC board and as a past president of the AGC–Texas Building Branch has given him invaluable experience in learning the legislative process, enabling him to better serve the constituents of House District 47.
Paul has been married to the former Sherry Cleveland for 40 years. They have two grown children, Kyle and Paula, who now own and work in the family business. Additionally Paul and Sherry are active members of the Pedernales River Fellowship and enjoy spending time with their six grandchildren.
