John Garrett
 
After graduating from Pflugerville High School, John Garrett earned his degree from Sam Houston State University and began his newspaper career at the Houston Chronicle. He became the advertising director at the Austin Business Journal in 2002 and helped turn the publication into one of the top-performing American City Business Journals.
 
While at the Austin Business Journal, John decided to create a hyperlocal, monthly publication with free distribution to everyone and that would be delivered through the mail. In September 2005, Community Impact Newspaper launched in Round Rock and Pflugerville.
 
Currently, there are 17 multicity editions of Community Impact Newspaper that are mailed to more than 1.25 million households and businesses in the Austin, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas. More Texans receive a Community Impact Newspaper than any other publication in the state. In 2014, for the fifth time, JG Media made the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America.
 
John and his wife, Jennifer, have three daughters and live in Round Rock. They are active members of Hill Country Bible Church–Round Rock. John is the vice chair of Regional Mobility for the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and serves on several community boards and nonprofit organizations. He was named the Best CEO of 2013 for Small Business by the Austin Business Journal, the 2010 Concordia University Excellence in Leadership Honoree and the 2010 Sam Houston State University Distinguished Young Alumnus.
